In the UAE, Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) is approved for both medical and cosmetic use. Medical treatments, such as for chronic migraine or excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), must be carried out by a licensed specialist doctor and are regulated by the health authorities (MOHAP, DHA or DOH). Cosmetic treatments, including wrinkle reduction or lip enhancement, are not covered by health insurance and are paid for privately.
